Print depicts members of the Virginia state Marines on the gunboat Miami stopping Shawnee Indians on the Ohio River.

The row galley Miami had a 73-foot keel, carried 46 oars, mounted 8 cannons, and had moveable gunwales to protect the crew from both bullet and arrow. Captain Jacob Pyeatt of the company of Virginia State Marines is informing some transient Indians that perhaps it would be better to return to their own side of the river, while an eager Marine covers the canoes with a carronade next to the sergeant, smoking his pipe - which would also light the fuse, if needed. This summer patrol of the Ohio, Miami, and Licking Creek did much to discourage any depredations along the Shawnee Territory, causing alarm among the Indians and concerns about their own defenses.
