"Lollygoggin' is a term that still persists in naval circles today, with somewhat of a different meaning. The original concept is illustrated by this Marine marksman who is high above the fighting top, and after the battle, is taking a well-earned rest by lollygoggin' - seated on the bullet-scarred spar of the mast, with his feet sprawled over the sail. This cool and comfortable method of relaxing was frowned upon because a sudden shift of wind or calm could cause the sail to collapse and make for a rather quick descent to the deck below. This was the only pastel drawing I had made since art school, and was used as the only full-color poster for a museum show."
