Camp Pendleton T-Shirt

The logo is modeled after a historic cattle brand known as the "Flying T" and "Hanging O".  This brand dates back to 1884, when the land now knows as Camp Pendleton was part of the largest cattle ranch in San Diego County.  Before it was named in honor of Major General Joseph H. Pendleton, the property was called Rancho Santa Margarita y Las Flores, purchased in 1882 by rancher Richard O'Neil.  He used the T and O brand for his cattle, and the design became well known in the region.  The brand was adopted by as the base's official emblem when the Marine Corps acquired the land in 1942.
